Hello parents! The MAP test schedule has been revised and second grade is no longer testing this week. Instead, we will test next week starting Tuesday through Friday, right after Memorial Day. Please make sure children are getting ample sleep this weekend and are rested when they come back to school Tuesday for the test!

Happy Friday everyone! As promised, I'm back today to give you an update on our final spring MAP test. The date is set for the week of the 22nd; we will test that Monday (22) and Tuesday (23) in reading and math. This is our final test that students will take to measure their yearly growth and see if they met their personal targets as well as the grade-level target of 193.
Parents, we have just about 1 week left before we go out with a bang and that means we need to get our children to work on TenMarks, Khan Academy, and Compass at home or at the library. We MUST be diligent about helping our children with their homework and double checking their work. Encourage children to be at school ON TIME (8:45 a.m.) so they do not miss ANY instructional time. We can do this, parents. We've got this! MAP, 2nd grade is coming for you! Thank you to those of you who wished me better while I was away sick. Migraines are terrible and when I get them, I'm basically bed-ridden, but I am back and ready to tackle all the work that the kids have missed in my absence.
In my absence, I sent field trip forms home yesterday for the upcoming field trip coming up in 2 weeks on Friday, May 19th. I will send a text every few days to remind you to sign the form, as they are due with the $5 payment no later than next Tuesday. A shout out to Ra'Shad Weston for being the first person to turn in his form! Stay tuned for the next post, which will be up Friday, with details about our upcoming spring MAP test! Also, the gallery has been updated with new pictures, so check out your hard-working children! We are finishing up module 5 where we have worked on adding and subtracting numbers within 1,000 and we will take our final test tomorrow on the module. Please have students work on TenMarks to help them review the content that will be addressed in tomorrow's test. They must be able to solve 3-digit addition and subtraction problems using the different strategies we've learned: arrow way, number bond way, addition and subtraction algorithm, and compensation. Do no hesitate to contact me if you need an example of a strategy.
The upcoming Module 6 will be all about learning to count in arrays and repeated addition to set students up for multiplication. We had a good turn out for the number of parents who showed up, so thank you to all the parents who were able to make it to Stagg yesterday for report card pick up. It was great to see everyone and be able to update you on your child's progress. Please feel free to contact myself or Ms. Suk if you still have any questions and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
For those of you who could not make it, please stop by the main office to collect your child's report card and please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. |
